Jeffrey J. Ryan (B.A., Colorado State University, 1983; M.A., Rice University, 1987; Ph.D., Rice University, 1989) is an associate professor of Comparative Politics and Latin American studies. He is the recipient of a number of teaching awards, including the Fulbright College Master Teacher Award (1996) and the university-wide Dr. John and Mrs. Lois Imhoff Award for Outstanding Teaching and Student Mentorship (2011).
Dr. Ryan has presented research at numerous national and international conferences, including invited presentations in Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador and Argentina. His published research has appeared in Comparative Politics, Party Politics, Public Administration Review, Latin American Policy, and PS: Political Science & Politics. His research interests range from issues relating to governance and political participation at the local level in Mexico to decentralization in Costa Rica to the impact of terrorist attacks on human rights protections in target countries. His current research focuses on the dynamics of Latin American guerrilla movements during and after the Cold War.
